Tango Desktop 2.0 was released on September 9, 2026. Version 1.x is no longer supported. Most problems below are fixed by updating, so start there.
1. Check you're on 2.0 and update
Open Tango Desktop from the menu bar (Mac) or system tray (Windows), click the Settings gear, then General. Under Version you should see v2.0.0 or later with a green Up to date badge.
If you see a 1.x version, or an Update button:
Click Update. Tango downloads the new version and restarts itself.
If there's no Update button and the version still shows 1.x, download the current version from app.tango.us/app/download-desktop and install it over the old one. On Windows, the new installer removes the old version for you.
Tango Desktop stops working if it's more than about a month behind the current version, so keep updates on. Capture bugs reported against 1.x (blue circles on screenshots, rotated images, checkboxes drawn wrong, no reaction in some apps) are fixed in 2.0.
Requirements: macOS 14 Sonoma or later (Apple silicon and Intel), or Windows 10 version 2004 or later and Windows 11 (x64 and ARM64).
2. "You need Tango Pro" or the download button is greyed out
The Desktop app is included with Pro and Enterprise. If you've paid and still see this:
You're signed into a different Workspace than the one that was upgraded. Switch Workspaces in the app.
You're signed in with a different email than the one that upgraded.
You're an Admin on a Free Workspace trying to download for Pro users. The Workspace itself has to be on Pro.
Log out and back in after fixing the above. Full checklist: I paid for Pro but still see Free features.
3. Nothing happens when I open the app
Tango Desktop doesn't open a main window. Look for the Tango icon in your menu bar (Mac, top right) or system tray (Windows, bottom right; you may need to click the ^ arrow). Click it to start a capture.
4. Permissions
Mac: Tango needs Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions. Without them you'll get steps with no screenshots, or no steps at all. See What permissions will I need to enable to use Tango's Desktop App?
Windows: No OS permission is needed. Some apps, though, run at a higher privilege level than Tango (Task Manager, some admin consoles and line-of-business clients). If Tango captures everything except one app, quit Tango, then right-click it and choose Run as administrator.
5. Tango isn't capturing clicks inside one app
Work through these in order:
Windows: relaunch Tango as administrator (section 4).
Make sure you're up to date (section 1).
Remote or virtual sessions (Citrix, Parallels, Splashtop, VDI): Tango captures the computer it's installed on. Install it inside the session to capture apps running there. See Where does Tango work?
Step titles say "Click here" instead of the button name. Tango reads the app's accessibility information to write smart step titles. Apps that don't expose it get generic titles. The screenshot and highlight are still correct; edit the title afterwards.
The app you're capturing crashes. Tell us which app. Tango asks apps for accessibility data during capture, and a few apps have bugs in how they answer. We've worked around FileMaker Pro already.
If none of that helps, send us the app name and a short screen recording (section 8).
6. Blank images, "Image failed to load", or the app is stuck starting up
This is almost always a firewall or proxy on a company network. Ask IT to allow:
*.tango.us*.amazonaws.comedge-config.vercel.com
If your network decrypts SSL traffic, exclude these domains from decryption. More in Domains, Protocols and Ports required for the Tango Desktop App.
7. Multiple monitors, or capturing only one app
When you start a capture, Tango asks what to capture and shows a live preview of what it's recording. Pick an app window to capture only that app. By default Tango follows whichever screen you're working on; pick a specific screen and it stays on that screen.
8. Getting help
Turn on Settings → Privacy → Share diagnostics with Tango. With it on, Tango sends logs and capture screenshots to us automatically when something goes wrong, so you don't need to find log files.
When you write in, include:
the email on your Tango account
Mac or Windows, and the OS version
the Tango Desktop version (Settings → General)
the app you were trying to capture
a short screen recording if you can share one
Limits worth knowing
A single capture is limited to 100 steps. Capture long processes in parts and use Capture more steps.
Guide Me, Live Blur, Voice Transcription and the AI Agent don't run on desktop-captured workflows. See Where does Tango work?
