Tango captures processes in two ways: the browser extension for web apps and websites, and the Desktop app for software installed on your computer. Here's what works where.
At a glance
Web apps in Chrome or Edge: yes, with the Tango extension (all plans).
Firefox, Safari or Arc: no.
Desktop software on Mac or Windows (Excel, Office and similar): yes, with the Tango Desktop app (Pro and Enterprise).
A process that moves between a web app and a desktop app: yes, in one capture with the Desktop app.
Linux: there is no Linux Desktop app. See below.
Remote desktop and virtual sessions: see below.
Phones and tablets: you can view shared workflows, but you can't capture or use Guide Me.
Browsers
The Tango extension runs on Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Tango does not offer a Firefox or Safari extension, and Arc is not supported. We can only guarantee compatibility with Chrome and Edge, so other Chromium-based browsers may not work.
Web apps
The extension captures most web apps you open in Chrome or Edge. It can't capture Chrome Settings pages, the Chrome Web Store, or the content inside Google Docs and Google Sheets (Google draws that content on a canvas, so Tango can't read it). If a page won't capture, upload a screenshot to that step instead. More in Are there limitations to what Tango can capture?
Desktop apps
The Tango Desktop app captures software installed on your computer, such as Excel and other Office apps. It runs on Mac (ARM and x64) and Windows 10/11, and works with most downloadable software that is up to date with your operating system. It's available on Pro and Enterprise.
Desktop captures become editable workflows in the Tango web app, alongside your other workflows. The Desktop app also records drag-and-drop actions and keyboard shortcuts (for example Cmd + C) as steps.

One process across the browser and desktop apps
If a process starts in a web app and continues in Excel, or the other way round, capture it with the Desktop app. It captures both desktop and browser-based programs in a single capture. Start the capture from the Desktop app, not the extension: a capture started from the extension can't record your desktop.
You can edit, share and export desktop-captured workflows like any other. A few features don't apply to them:
Guide Me doesn't run on desktop-captured workflows.
Live Blur (Secure Blur) isn't available in the Desktop app.
Voice Transcription works with browser capture only.
The AI Agent automates web apps and websites only.
Linux
The Tango Desktop app is available for Mac and Windows only. There is no Linux version.
Remote desktop and virtual sessions (Citrix, Splashtop, VDI)
Tango captures the browser or computer it's installed on. To document a web app you open inside a remote session, install the Tango extension in Chrome or Edge inside that session. To document a desktop app inside a remote session, the Desktop app needs to run inside that session too. Capturing the remote window from your own computer records screenshots, but Tango can't detect the individual buttons and fields inside it.
Phones and tablets
Tango doesn't have a mobile app, and you can't capture on a phone or tablet. Shared workflows open fine in a mobile browser. Guide Me needs the Tango extension, so it doesn't run on phones or tablets.
To document a mobile app, take screenshots on the device, move them to your computer and add them to a workflow with Insert a Step. More in When will Tango offer a mobile version?
Where you can put your Tangos
You don't need an API integration to use Tangos in other tools:
Copy HTML pastes a whole workflow, with images, into Google Docs, Confluence, Notion and similar tools. See Can I copy and paste a Workflow to another platform?
Embed a live workflow in any tool that supports iframes, including knowledge bases, wikis and LMS platforms. See How do I embed a Tango into my website or knowledge base?
Share a link to the workflow.
AI Agent and AI assistants
Tango's AI Agent (Enterprise Automation plan) runs in web apps in Chrome or Edge. It doesn't automate desktop software. See How does Tango's AI Agent work?
To let your AI assistant answer questions from your team's Tangos using Tango's MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server, see How do I connect Tango to my AI assistant? (beta, Enterprise).
