What are Combined Steps?
Combined Steps automatically group related actions into one step with sub-steps.
For example:
Step 1: Click Add Contacts
Step 2: Click Create New
Tango combines these into a single step:
This reflects how users naturally complete tasks and makes guides easier to follow.
Why use Combined Steps?
Combined Steps are designed to make guides more efficient and user-friendly.
Key benefits
Shorter guides: Reduce total step count by ~30–40%
Improved clarity: Group related actions together
Better usability: Easier for users to follow without jumping between steps
More natural workflows: Mirrors how actions actually happen in sequence
How to uncombine steps
If you prefer to show each action as a separate step, you can uncombine them in the editor.
Open your guide in the editor
Locate the combined step
Click the three dots (⋯) next to the step
Select Uncombine steps
This will split the step back into individual steps.
When does Tango combine steps?
Tango automatically combines steps when:
Actions are closely related
One action directly follows another (e.g., opening a menu → selecting an option)
Filling out multiple text fields in a row on a single form
The steps are part of a single interaction flow
Can I manually combine steps?
No. Combined Steps are only created automatically by Tango during capture.
How to turn off Combined Steps
You can disable Combined Steps for future captures using the Tango Side Panel.
1. Open the Tango Extension
2. Click on Settings
3. Uncheck the Combine Steps box
This will prevent Tango from combining steps in any new guides you create.
Note: This setting only applies to new captures. Existing guides will not be affected.
